It’s usually around this time in January that the habits we promised we would keep up start to slip from the top of the To-Do list. And that’s OK, we can’t be productive all the time! If carving out a moment for yourself and practicing yoga more often was your aim for 2019, we want to help you reach your goal! In a few simple steps, we will show you how to sew your very own yoga mat holder!
What You Need:
Elastic Fabric Band
Sewing Machine & Thread
Scissors
Yoga Mat to measure
Let’s Get Started!
Step 1
First off, roll up your yoga mat, we’re not doing any downward dog just yet! Place the elasticated fabric band around the rolled mat and cut two equal pieces: one for each end of the mat! Be careful not to cut it too loose, as elastic stretches with use, so you want it to be a little bit snug at the start! Next, cut a length of elastic fabric band that will connect both loops.
Step 2
The next step is assembling the loops that will keep the mat rolled up at either end. Place the end of the elastic to the other end, right-side of the fabric facing the right-side, and stitch to seal it. Turn it right side out so that the seam will be on the inside. Do the same for the second loop!
Step 3
Now, you want to stitch the end loops to the long elastic strip. Place one end of the long elastic strip around the loop, at the point where you stitched the seam. Pin it down to secure if you need to. Do the same for the other end of the long elastic strip and the second loop. Stitch around the square to finish it off.
Hey, guess what, you did it! You’re now ready to head your yoga class… or take a well deserved break after making your very own mat holder! Show us your finished yoga mat holder on Instagram!
