Sew a practical bottle bag for shopping, picnics in the garden, parties and on the go! With our free pattern and detailed instructions, you can make your very own bottle bag step by step.
The spacious bag offers space for up to four bottles and the mobile dividing cross perfectly ensures that glass bottles do not break and do not jingle when you are out and about. You can also choose to use the bag without the dividers for normal daily shopping.
Our tip: This project works best when it is made of coated cotton or oilcloth! If something breaks or the champagne cork is not so tight, a quick wipe is enough to make your bag look new again.
Material recommendations
What you need:
– The free pattern for a bottle bag
– 0.5 m of oilcloth
– 0.5 m of lining material
– 0.5 m of Decovil
– Approx. 1.40 m of webbing
– Fabric clips
– Sewing machine, fabric scissors, sewing thread
– An iron
Cutting and preparation
Snow the bottom part once each from oilcloth, lining and Decovil. Then you need the wall piece made of oilcloth, lining and batting once. In addition, cut two pieces of webbing á 70 cm or in your individual desired length. You also need four rectangles for the bottle separator made of oilcloth and two additional pieces made of Decovil to reinforce it.
Sew the bottle bag yourself
Carefully iron the decovil onto the left side of the appropriate wax cloth. Then sew the wall piece made of oilcloth together on the short edges right sides together.
Firmly pin the wall hose and floor together at the edges and sew the parts together. Repeat the first few steps with the lining. Then put both bags right sides together so that the edges are on top of each other. Note the orientation of the square bottom parts and make sure that the corners are on top of each other.
Pin the straps on two opposite sides. The tape must lie between the right layers of fabric.
Tuck all the layers together and then put them all around. Leave a turning opening.
Now turn everything and then at the end stitch everything close to the edge.
Iron the Decovil parts onto two oilcloths, leaving one centimetre all around the edge of the oilcloth.
Then put an ironed part and an unprocessed part right sides together and stitch them together all around. Leave a turning opening and turn the parts. Then pin both rectangles on top of each other and stitch them together in the middle with a long seam. Fanned out, this part separates the bottles from one another.
Now you are done!
Super quick and super easy, right?
