Easter is almost here and we’ve got a quick and easy tutorial for you to make from leftover fabric! Many of us are spending a lot of unplanned time at home at the moment, so we wanted to bring you more ideas on how to distract yourself by being creative. And what better way than to make Easter decorations?!
You only need a few materials for this project and if you like to sew anyway, you’re more than likely to have them lying around the house!
This tutorial is perfect for doing with kids to keep them occupied and is suitable for absolute beginners too!
What you’ll need:
- Leftover cotton fabric
- Layer of feece stuffing
- Ribbon or cord to hang
- Pins or cloth clips
- Scissors
- Sewing machine and thread
How to sew your Easter egg decorations:
Thankfully, there aren’t too many steps involved in making your Easter egg decorations. First, cut two pieces of your fabric and a piece of the fleece stuffing in the same size, as well as a small length of ribbon. The pieces should all be at least 8cm x 6cm in size, otherwise working with them will become too difficult because they will be hard to turn.
Place your two pieces of fabric on top of one another, with the patterned side facing in. The ribbon should be placed between them, with the fleece stuffing on top. After you’ve finished sewing and have turned your project around, the fleece will be the inside layer.
Pin the layers together with your cloth clips. Then, with your sewing machine, sew them together in the shape of an egg. Use a normal back stitch and leave an opening on one side.
This is what your project should look like at this point! There’s a gap left in the seam on the right-hand side so we can turn the project the right way around from there.
Take a scissors and cut around the edge of the egg, leaving about 0.5cm around the seam.
Now you can turn your project the right way around.
Take your fabric clips and pin the seam opening closed.
Now close the seam with a backstitch and then sew all the way around the egg. You’re finished!
