This week we caught up with sewing blogger Cookin’ and Craftin’ who made the Mai Tai dress pattern from Our Lady of Leisure. It’s always exciting to see how different crafters work with patterns and bring their own style into their work to create something personal and unique. Keep reading to find out why crafting is so important for Meg and for a discount on this dream dress pattern!

1. When did you start crafting?
I’ve always been a fairly crafty person. I think it runs in the genes! My mother is an accomplished sewist, and there were always all sorts of crafts around when I was a kid, including sewing, knitting, macrame, needlework, latch hooking and many others. Being creative and crafty has always been a part of my life!
2. What’s the most important item you’ve made?
Hmm… I don’t know if I’ve ever made anything I would call important. I’m more of a sew-for-everyday-wear sewist, rather than a special occasion sewist. But it’s definitely been important to me to try sewing different types of garments to test out new skills or styles!
3. What are you working on at the moment?
It’s hot hot hot right now where I live, so I am working on a new swimsuit and some shorts!
4. What does the online sewing community mean to you?
I find the online sewing community to be endlessly inspiring. There are so many talented sewists out there sharing their talent and skills. It definitely sparks my creativity to interact with them! Plus the community is so supportive. I also love that the online sewing community allows me to interact with folks all over the world! I’ve even been lucky enough to meet some of them in real life during my travels over the past few years in Bangkok, Singapore, Melbourne, Montreal, Ottawa, and at home in the U.S. And I’m looking forward to meeting more!
5. Why is crafting important to you?
I just plain love it. I find it scratches a creative itch that my day job doesn’t, in the sense that it produces a very tangible thing that I can hold up and say “I made this!” I also find the whole sewing process, from choosing patterns and fabric through to sewing, to be very soothing and relaxing. If I haven’t sewn in a few days I start to feel antsy!
