Whether you plan on going to the lake, beach or park in summer, it’s always great to lounge around and have a picnic! What makes it even more special is if you have sewn it yourself! We have a magical variation for you: our picnic blanket made of geo-printed fabric and coated cotton.
Our tip for you: A bottom made of oilcloth or coated cotton is perfect against any moisture or grass and dirt stains which make this a great fabric choice!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SEWING THE PICNIC BLANKET
– 1.5 m outer fabric made of cotton
– 1.5 m oilcloth
– 1.5 m volume fleece
– snap fasteners and an awl
– sewing machine, sewing thread, scissors, fabric, clips, pins
– iron and ironing board
Cutting: Cut your fabrics using the following information:
– A square made of oilcloth: 140 x 140 cm
– A square made of outer fabric: 140 x 140 cm
– A square made of batting 140 x 140 cm
– Two strips of oilcloth: 70 x12 cm
– A Strips of volume fleece 70 x10 cm
Iron the batting on the wrong side of the outer fabric or pin it in place. Then place the outer fabric right sides together on the oilcloth and stitch all the layers together all around. Then leave a 4 ”opening open 6” from a corner and turn the entire piece over.
Now you can put the small pieces of oilcloth right sides together and place your volume fleece in the middle. Close both long and one short side. Then turn the piece over and place it in the turning opening of the blanket so that it protrudes outwards and can be placed around the rolled blanket.
Now quilt the blanket all around, closing the turning opening and grasping the fastening strap. Now you can add snaps to the fastening strap so that the rolled blanket can be easily fastened at the end.
Now it’s time for the final steps: With a simple lock stitch, you can now gather all three layers across the top with just a few long seams. Voila! Now you are done and have the perfect picnic blanket for all your summer outings!
