Send your dogs out in style!
Our designer ‘madmonkeyknits’ creates adorable dog onesie patterns, so we got in touch with her to find out more about these cute knitted dog clothes! We know you’ll enjoy reading the story behind her designs as much as we did!
“I started designing madmonkeyknits dog coats when my youngest son and his boyfriend moved from Darwin to Melbourne in Australia. Their Jack Russell dog Grungle hated the cold Melbourne winters as he was used to the tropical Darwin climate where the temperature is a constant 30C”
“I started by making him a number of coats and his favorite one was the rainbow coat which he wore to Gay Pride day in Melbourne. I have also designed coats for a number of his dog friends in Melbourne. Now that he is getting older and a bit grumpier I have very recently designed pajamas, track suits and onesies for him for extra winter warmth. It took me a long time to perfect dog trousers but I finally got them to work perfectly with all the necessary doggy bits cut away! Nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing Grungle in one of his ‘madmonkeyknits’ outfits as he gets lots of compliments wherever he goes.”
“Burt and Freddy got married last year and I designed and made a tuxedo for Grungle to wear as he was best man (dog). It had a wonderful rainbow bow tie which exactly matched the boys rainbow cuff-links. The wedding actually hit the Sunday national paper the next day. This was because gay marriage is still illegal in Australia but they were able to marry at the British Consulate and Grungle’s outfit got a mention. The dog outfit knitting patterns are an enormous success”
