Christmas is coming and it’s our favorite time to stay in, get cosy and get crafting! The days are shorter, the air smells like Christmas cookies and cinnamon and it’s the best time of the year to invest time in handmade gifts and decorations. This DIY is perfect for a quick afternoon crafting session – alone, with friends or with kids.
We’ll show you in this quick DIY how you can make a festive and colorful orange garland in no time flat. Not only is it quick – it’s also easy – a great DIY project for a cosy, crafty afternoon with kids. You need almost no material for this project , and probably have most of it at home already. Ok – let’s get making!
Material for an orange garland
You’ll need:
– many oranges (how many, depends on how long you want to make your garland)
– a knife
– thread and a needle
– wooden beads in different sizes
– scissors
DIY Christmas Deco : Make an orange and wood garland
Step 1: Cut and dry the oranges in advance
First of all, you will need some preparation time. Cut your oranges in slices (approximately 0,5 cm thick) and leave them out to dry for many days (up to one week). A perfect place for this is on your radiator (on top of a cloth, to absorb moisture)- wafting also a beautiful citrus smell through the room. If you want to get going right away – you can cut through this air-drying time, to dry them out inside the oven.
Step 2: Thread your orange slices and beads
Now it is time to bring all the pieces together to make a garland. Take your thread and needle and begin to thread one piece of dried orange and one wooden bead – one after the other. Make your garland as long or as short as you like.
Our tip: We recommend to not make it too long, to avoid too much pressure on the thread. Rather – make many shorter Garlands. Alternatively, the longer you make it, the stronger your thread should be!
Where will you hang this to decorate with festive cheer?
