Cutting – sewing culottes
Depending on which type of culotte style you have decided on, you now cut your respective pattern pieces to your desired length. The following cut parts must be cut:
2x front part
2x rear part
1x waistband
Tutorial- Step by step
1. Adjust your overlock
Depending on how thick your knitted fabric is, you have to adjust the thread tension. We have a knitted fabric in the middle area, which is why we have chosen a medium thread tension. If you have a slightly thicker fabric, the tension for the lower and upper looper may have to be looser. To avoid wavy processing, set the differential feed to 1 and choose a large stitch width. In our case we have a stitch width of 4.
2. Lay the pattern pieces right sides together
Put your two front parts right sides together and fix the crotch seam with fabric needles. Now it’s time to get to the overlock – close the crotch seam and repeat the process for the back too.
3. Close the side seams
Place your rear part right sides together on your front part so that the outer edges meet. Close the side seams with your overlock.
4. Close the inside seams
Now close the two inner seams. Make sure that all the seams meet properly and that the pattern pieces form a cross when viewed from the right side.
5. Sew the waistband right sides together in the fold
Put the waistband right sides together into the fold and close the shorter edge with the overlock.
6. Sew the waistband to the pants
Make sure that the seam from the waistband meets the centre back. We still need an opening for the elastic waistband. Therefore, save approx. 10 cm at the centre back and sew around the edge of the waistband.
7. Tighten the elastic band
Pull the elastic band into the drawstring in the length you want. A safety pin can be a practical helper for you. When you have put the end of the elastic through the drawstring, sew the elastic right sides together. Then close the opening of your drawstring.
8. Adjust the length to your size
The pattern is designed for a height of 1.68 cm. Adjust the length of your body size individually. If you like, you can still neaten the outer edge. We decided to leave the edge open.
And Voila!
And just like that, you are done! With your new culottes made of comfortable knit fabric, relaxing is definitely a little easier.
