We’re continuing our celebration of our independent designers! Meet Nora Lemmon, a sewing pattern designer, who makes gorgeous clothes and playthings for kids. Read on to get to know more about her and her life as a pattern designer! Click here to visit her shop.
1. What made you want to become a pattern designer?
My daughter encouraged me to publish my designs.
2. Why is pattern design so important to you?
I have a number of expensive hobbies and the amount that I receive from my sales allows me to feel that I am not a drain on our pensioners’ income.
3. Is pattern designing your full-time job?
No, it is not full-time. I am a retired school librarian and delighted that I can still add to our savings.
4. Do you have your own studio? Tell us about your workspace.
We still have a family home with children that have long ago left the nest. Our spacious home allows our children and grandchildren to visit comfortably. I share my sewing/creative space with my retired husband’s office space. I am also an artist and have a very comfortable studio in our double garage.
5. When you’re experiencing a creative block, how do you get back into the spirit?
Walk away from your creative space. Listen to music or focus on one of my other interests like a good game of golf or a game of tennis or spend a day in my art studio.
6. What is your favourite pattern you’ve created?
Though this is not my most profitable pattern I just love the Indoor Playhouse Table Tent because I know how valuable this was to me and my little toddlers back in the day.
