This week we have an exciting blog takeover from our amazing ambassador Monica of thatssewmonica. She recently sewed up a stunning make of the IAm patterns Aphrodite cocktail dress and shared her experiences of the making process with us!
First this is a cute dress. It is a boxy style shape that can definitely hide areas you may not want to see however, the back view adds that sexiness. This pattern is very flirty and from the front it looks like a casual cocktail dress but then the back gives you all the sassy.
The pattern directions are easy to understand for Intermediate to Advance sewers. it is also easy to sew and doesn’t have that many pieces. Just what I like …lol! You can wear the pattern over your head and does not require any fastners.
I made the following adjustments: I have a shorter torso and had to bring up the back of the skirt as I was showing all my goodies and not in a good way LOL. There is a a panel option that you can do and I can see making that with color blocking fabric. I still love the back, and can see wearing this a beach cover up. Other modifications I made were to increase the armhole as I have larger arms and I don’t like it to feel tight.
I would suggest that you wear some cute spanx or shorts as the hole in the back is not flesh against your body and you can actually look right down it. I do plan to wear these over jeans and with tights and boots. I will make this again and use a sheer fabric for a nice beach cover up that is flirty and fun.
If you enjoyed reading about Monica’s recent make why not join her live Instagram sew along this weekend? Monica will be sewing another IAM pattern called the Lion and Zebre puff sleeve sweatshirt! This pattern is currently on 20% off so that you can join along with the sew-along!
